[ 6:19 Side 1, track 1: What the World Needs Now Is Love ]
-What is segregation?
[whistle] -Rise and shine, boys! Anybody here, seen my old friend John, can you tell me where he's gone?
-We're at the Trademark, the motorcade is coming by here,
I can see many many motorcycles coming by now, police motorcycles.
Just heard a call on the radio for all units along Industrial,
to pick up the motorcade. -We interrupt this program to bring you a special bulletin: Dallas Texas, the flash, apparently official: President John F. Kennedy died, at 1 p.m., central standard time.
-We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't really matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountain top. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live... No-one can be certain who next will suffer, from some senseless act of bloodshed.
.....to send you a message, I've been here too long already. So my thanks to all of you, and now let's go on to Chicago, and let's win there... [cheers]
-Senator Kennedy has been.., senator Kennedy has been shot, is that possible?
-Like it or not, we live in times of danger and uncertainty. That is the way he lived, that
is what he leaves us. My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in
life. Be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw
suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it.
-What is segregation?

[ 3:13 Side 1, track 2: Whatever Happened To Love ] [Tom Clay talks:] I'd like to ask you a question. Maybe you can give me an answer, or, maybe you're looking for it yourself.
Whatever happened to the child in us?
Do you remember rolling in a tire? Walking with tin cans on your heels. A swimming hole called BAV [?] [chorus] Whatever happened to love.
Do you remember skipping stones on water? Whatever happened to when it would rain, you'd build a little dam
in the street, and wade barefooted, and make little boats out of match sticks and paper. [chorus] Whatever happened to love.
Do you remember 'Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, wish I may, wish I might, have the
wish, I wished tonight.' -What'd you wish? Can't tell you, 'cause if I do it won't come true. Whatever happened to the child, that used to be.. me?

[ 3:07 Side 1, track 3: What's Goin' On ] [Tom Clay reads the news in the background, foreground is loud music:]
Good evening The US command in Saigon, says that 38 Americans were killed, 92 wounded, in combat, last week. The number of dead was the highest... ..... ... Washington: The House monday rejected a Senate passed proposal urging president Nixon to end the war within 9 months. ...

[ 1:58 Side 1, track 4: For Years? ] [Young girls sings:]
Jesus loves me, yes I know,
Yes, Jesus loves me, [Background sound of constant machine gun fire during Nixon's speech:] [Nixon's acceptance of the Republican nomination for president, 8/8/68:] For four years this administration has had at its disposal the greatest military and economic advantage that one nation has ever had over another in a war in history. For four years America's fighting men have set a record for courage and sacrifice unsurpassed in our history. For four years this administration has had the support of the loyal opposition for the objective of seeking an honorable end to the struggle. Never has so much military and economic and diplomatic power been used so ineffectively. And if after all of this time, and all of this sacrifice, and all of this support, there is still no end in sight, then I say the time has come for the American people to turn to new leadership not tied to the mistakes and the policies of the past. The first priority foreign policy objective of our next administration will to be bring an honorable end to the war in Vietnam. [he said " will to be" in that order] [Young girls sings more:]
My country, 'tis of thee,

[ 4:35 Side 1, track 5: The Victors ] [Tom Clay talks:]
Private Alex Woodruff, US Army, killed in action, Wake Island, World War 2. Age 19.

[ 1:32 Side 2, track 1: MacArthur Park ]
What would you do if you lost your soul?
[Midi file MacArthur Park, 69 Kb]
Oh... I know, there will be another song for me, and I will sing it. And they say that there will
be another dream for me, yeah, someone will bring it.

[ 4:13 Side 2, track 2: This Guy's In Love With You ] What's that, oh no, this guy is not in love with anybody. There's no such thing as love, it's non-existant, it's a fantasy. It's a pain, heartache and sorrow, love is selfish. Never in a million years will I ever fall in love again. Ha! Who do I think I'm kidding... Baby, I know it's going to sound a little strange, but, I need your love. But, I want your love. God, what I would give, to make you mine. Tell me now, is it so, don't let me be the last to know. My hands are shaking, don't let my heart keep breaking. I need your love, got to have all your love. What? What'll I give you in return? How about my soul, my heart, everything. Yeah. Just say that you'll make me yours. Tell me now, is it so, don't let me be the last to know. My hands are shaking, don't let my heart keep breaking, for: I need your love, have all your love. Say you're in love, and you'll be my girl. What's that? Oh no, 'cause if you do that I'll just die, yeah, I'd simply die. But you never do, do you? You think it's gonna be the last day of your life if they leave. You say, oh, wow man, if she ever left me, I'd just cease to exist, but you go on, and on, and on, and on. Oh, I'm sorry, I got sidetracked, didn't I. I'd do almost anything, to make you mine. Tell me now, is it so, don't let me be the last to know. My hands are shaking, don't let my heart be breaking, for: I need your love, have all your love. Say you're in love, and you'll be my girl. What's that? If you don't, what'll happen to me? I know you won't believe it but, I would die...

[ 2:30 Side 2, track 3: Baby I Need Your Loving ] We're talking about love. What's it all about? Why is it that something we spend most of our life searching for, brings such pain when we find it. Look closely. You'll find That which brought you happiness, is what now is bringing you pain. Love comes quietly, but God, the deafening roar the silence makes when it goes. Did you notice how much bigger the bed became when she left, and what to do with that leg, that searches in vain for someone to touch. Hey, man, come on you have to stop this cryin', we all know a man aint supposed to cry. Where is your pride? Pride? When it comes to love, there is no pride. If it meant having her back, right now, I'd get down on my knees and beg. Some say it's a sign of weekness, for a man to beg. But weak, weak I'd rather be, if it means having you to keep. Because you see babe, lately I've been losing sleep. Yeah, baby:
Baby, I need your loving, got to have all your loving. If at night, I call your name, oh, sometimes I wonder, girl, will I ever be the same. Oh, yeah, when you see me smiling, forget it. Yeah, you should know that things have gotten worse. Any smile that you might see, has all been rehearsed. Darling, I can't go on without you. This emptiness just won't let me live without you. This loneliness inside me, Darling, that makes me feel half alive.
Baby, I need your loving, got to have all your loving.

[ 3:50 Side 2, track 4: Both Sides Now ]
I talk as though I've been there, don't I?
[Midi file Both Sides Now, 3 Kb]
Bows and flows of angel hair, and ice cream castles in the air,
I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel,
I've looked at love from both sides now,
Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say 'I love you' right out loud,
I've looked at life from both sides now,
|
[ 2:30 Side 2, track 5: Bridge Over Troubled Water ]
[Tom Clay talks:]
I think I know what love is. I can see you all now, waiting for the answer... right? It's like:
[Midi file Bridge Over Troubled Water, 8 Kb]
When you're weary, and, and feeling small, right?
When she's down and out, and when she's on the street. Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.
